Abbott Elementary, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Crossover Set

Abbott Elementary is crossing paths with It's always sunny in Philadelphia. The creative minds behind the two comedy series are teaming up for a crossover episode.

Sunny star and creator Rob McElhenney confirmed the news in an Instagram post and story on Thursday. He shared a photo of himself with Sunny star Charlie Day and Abbott star and creator Quinta Brunson poses on what appeared to be the Warner Bros. lot where Abbott movie. She captioned the photo simply: “Oh. HI.”

In an IG story, McElhenney posted another photo that also included Sunny star Danny DeVito along with Abbott stars Tyler James Williams and William Stanford Davis.

The news follows months of speculation that there was something in the works involving both series. In July at Comic-Con, Brunson had anticipated it Abbott would feature a crossover episode but offer few details other than that it would air during the show's fourth season, which debuts Oct. 9.

“We're going to have an interesting crossover this season…but I'm not going to tell you who or what or where or when or how,” Brunson said at the time. “But it's really exciting and I think it's going to change television as we know it.”

Abbott AND Sunny they're both part of the Disney family: the former airs on ABC, while the latter calls FX home. Plus, they're both set in Philadelphia. Sunny also premiered its 16th season last summer.

Both Sunny AND Abbott were represented at last month's Emmy Awards. Married Sunny stars McElhenney and Kaitlin Olson hosted the show, where Abbott Elementarywas nominated for numerous Emmys, including Best Comedy Series.
