Andrew Garfield has seen all the carousel horse memes We live in timeand it's here for them.
The Oscar-nominated actor stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert before the film's release in theaters. During Garfield's appearance on Wednesday, the host asked about the “demonic carousel horse” featured in a promotional photo of Garfield and his co-star, Florence Pugh, that went viral when it was released.
Garfield explained that he saw the promotional photo while he was “doom scrolling” right before leaving for a six-day retreat in Northern California, during which he would not have his phone.
“I see this picture and think, 'Maybe I'm the only one who will notice this crazy horse,'” he told Stephen Colbert. “'It feels like I'm in his poster, in a way. No, I'm probably too sensitive. No one else will see it.'”
When the Tick Tick… Boom The star ended his retreat and turned his phone back on, he said the first thing he saw was Colbert speaking in his horse monologue. “I see all the memes, which are just, I was crying laughing in the departure lounge,” she said. “So I guess other people noticed.”
Before giving Colbert a T-shirt with the horse's image on it, Garfield joked that he would make a three-part documentary series “to get to the bottom of the matter, where oversight fell apart and why this horse has took a life of his own.”
We live in time follows Almut (Pugh) and Tobias (Garfield) as they are brought together by a surprise encounter that changes their lives. “As they embark on a journey challenged by the limits of time, they learn to appreciate every moment of their unconventional love story,” the plot reads.
Because of the film's love story, Colbert took the opportunity to ask Garfield about the first time he felt love. THE Spider-Man: No Way Home The actor recalled meeting a girl named Sarah at the bus stop when he was just a teenager.
“She was singing the Spice Girls song, 'If You Wanna Be My Lover.' I was 4-foot-1. She was about 5-foot-11. Beautiful blonde, porcelain skin, just gorgeous. And she singing that song, she said : 'Would you like to be my lover?'” she said. “I'm 13 and prepubescent, and I say, 'Yes, I'd like to.' And she says, “I have a little meeting at my house tonight, if you want to come.” And I felt like the Fonzarelli da Happy days.”
The relationship didn't last long, though, Garfield admitted. He went to his house and as soon as he arrived the phone rang. When Sarah returned, he whispered to one of his friends, who approached him.
“He says, 'Hey, Sarah's leaving you because some stud from the nearby school just called and said, 'Hey, do you want to be my lover?' and I was obsessed with it for three years, and now I'm fine,” he joked, trembling exaggeratedly.
