The Oscar-winning actress will be honored at the TIFF fundraiser on September 8, also bringing her latest film, Without blood, in Toronto for a world premiere. Salma Hayek Pinault and Demián Bichir have leading roles.
Jolie will be feted alongside fellow trophy winners Amy Adams, Jharrel Jerome, Cate Blanchett, Mike Leigh, Durga Chew-Bose, David Cronenberg, Clément Ducol, and Camille and Zhao Tao. TIFF Tribute Award winners tend to have films on the official Toronto lineup.
Jolie also brought her previous films First they killed my father AND The head of the family, which she executive produced, in Toronto for the launches. Her film credits include Disney's Maleficent series, Salt AND Girl, interruptedand the next film directed by Pablo Larraín Mary.
Away from the film sets, Jolie is known for her humanitarian work focused on refugees and human rights, environmental protection and funding of schools, health and education initiatives around the world.
Proceeds from the Tribute Awards go to the festival’s TIFF Every Story Fund, which encourages diversity, equity, and inclusion in film. The gala dinner to raise funds for the festival’s philanthropic efforts is also an occasional harbinger of Oscar recognition and is held annually at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel.
The 49th Toronto Film Festival will take place from September 5 to 15.
