Bill Maher addressed undecided voters directly, or as he calls them, “Christmas Eve politics shoppers,” in the latest episode of Real time.
With the election just days away, the host said, “I can't say I'm not nervous about the election being in the hands of a small group of undecided voters. Those curious bisexuals in politics that everyone loves to make fun of.”
He added that he calls them “Christmas Eve policy shoppers” because “they know the big day is coming, but they can't get anything done until the last minute.”
But Maher took a moment at the end of the show to share a message for those voters who have yet to decide whether to vote for Kamala Harris or Donald Trump, even though the last day to vote is Tuesday.
“Hello, Christmas Eve voter,” the comedian said. “You obviously don't like Trump, otherwise you'd already be in that camp, but you're still torn. And I'm the one who keeps saying I understand why. You wanted more reassurance that the Democrat would not accept every aggressively anti-common sense idea that comes out of the woke mind virus, which yes, is a thing. And if she [Harris] loses, this would be mainly the reason.”
He continued: “And part of that mental virus is Progressophobia, Steven Pinker's term for the liberal fear of admitting when things are actually good, as the economist says about America today. An economy with an unemployment rate of 4% and a GDP per capita of $85,000 does not need to be made great again. It's fantastic. And yes, the economy is the other big issue for voters on Christmas Eve, and they think it's terrible when in reality it's bigger and better than ever.”
“Every economist predicted that we were going into a recession and all the horrible things that would come with it,” Maher added. “But just like Trump's girlfriends, those things never came.” The host went on to list positive statistics about today's economy that “Democrats should have sold,” including low gas prices and low unemployment.
“You should vote Harris because of the economy, but undecided people don't get that message because Democrats can't get the words out of their mouths, 'Things aren't that bad,'” he said.
Maher concluded his message: “Dear Christmas Eve voter, I tell you that things are not that bad but they could be much worse under the rule of a mad king. I love everything about Kamala? No. Who told you you can love everything? I wish he had found a better reason to be president than “I'm not Trump?” Yes, that would have been very helpful, but let's not forget that “I'm not Trump” is still a very good reason.”
The guests featured in the latest episode of Real time they were Representative Jamie Raskin, Tim Miller and Michael C. Moynihan.
