Fox News host Bret Baier admitted to the wrong clip featuring Donald Trump talking about his “enemy from within” claims he made during his exclusive Special report interview with Kamala Harris, which drew a severe rebuke from the US vice president.
Speaking Thursday with Fox News hosts Harris Faulkner and Harold Ford Jr. on his nightly newscast, Baier said: “Harold, I made a mistake and I want to say I made a mistake. When I asked for comment, I expected an “enemy from within” piece of Maria Bartiromo's interview to be linked to your town hall piece, Harris, asking the former president about the enemy from within. There was only the piece about the city hall.
To show what he originally meant, Baier had the clip of Trump's original comments during Bartiromo's Sunday morning futures interview roll, followed by a snippet of the Faulkner interview in which the former US president, during a Fox News Channel town hall, doubled down on his comments about his political rivals posing a bigger threat to the US compared to foreign countries.
“The point was, we asked him about the question about that phrase and what he was trying to mean,” Baier added after the two clips were filmed.
During his October 16 interview on Special report with Bret Baier, Harris responded after the wrong line aired. “Bret, I'm sorry, and with all due respect, that clip was not what he said about the enemy within, what he repeated when he talked about the American people. That's not what you just showed,” he said.

“You didn't show it and that's the thing. He's said it many times and we both know it. And we both know that he talked about turning the American military against the American people. He talked about prosecuting people engaged in peaceful protests. He talked about locking people up because they don't agree with him,” Harris added.
In Fox News Sunday morning futures In his interview with Bartiromo last weekend, Trump suggested using the military against “the enemy within.” Saying: “The biggest problem is the enemy from within, not even the people who came and destroyed our country… I think the biggest problem is the people from within. We have some very bad people. We have some sick, crazy radical leftists.”
This week's appearance marked Harris' first formal interview on Fox News Channel after completing previous interviews on CNN and CBS. 60 minutes show.
After the combative interview, in which Baier frequently interrupted Harris as she walked away to give her answers, Harris' campaign explained why they sat down.
“I think there are a good number of independents and Haley-style Republicans who are very open to voting for Vice President Harris and that's why we're open to holding events with Republicans and on Fox News,” the communications director said of the Harris campaign, Brian Fallon. “We feel like we definitely achieved what we set out to do in the sense that she managed to reach an audience that probably hadn't been exposed to the arguments she made along the way, and she also got to show her tenacity in standing tall against a hostile interviewer.
