BTS continues to entertain fans during their mandatory military enlistment, this time through a documentary that follows the group’s leader, RM.
The documentary film RM: Right People, Wrong Place will premiere at the Busan International Film Festival. The film, which was invited to the Open Cinema section of the festival, chronicles the process of making the world star's second solo album Right place, wrong person.
CJ 4DPLEX, a subsidiary of Korean conglomerate CJ Group, and BTS's record label Hybe announced the news on Tuesday.
“It is a great honor for RM: Right People, Wrong Place “to be the first documentary centered on a K-pop artist officially selected for the Busan International Film Festival's large-scale outdoor premiere,” said Gyewon Suh, GM of Hybe Media Studio, in a statement. “The film offers an honest portrait of RM, and with director Lee Seokjun's unique visual style, we have created a truly unconventional yet exceptional work. We hope the film will resonate deeply with audiences.”
RM: Right People, Wrong Place “explores the heartfelt journey of BTS leader RM as he navigates the complexities of being a global superstar,” according to a release. The film will give fans a glimpse into the eight months leading up to the rapper's enlistment.
RM, whose real name is Kim Namjoon, enlisted in the Korean Army late last year. Seven of BTS's eight members are currently serving.
RM: Right People, Wrong Place is directed by Lee Seokjun and produced by Hybe. Lee previously produced music videos for BTS member J-Hope. The film will be released worldwide later this year, according to a statement.
“We are pleased to announce the worldwide theatrical release of the BTS RM documentary, RM: Right People, Wrong Placein collaboration with Hybe and BigHit Music, building on the success of our previous partnership for BTS: Still Coming to Theaters“, CJ 4DPLEX CEO Joon Beom Sim said in a statement.
RM and his groupmates were spotted welcoming BTS's eldest member Jin, who was discharged from military service earlier this summer. BTS members Jimin and Jungkook star in a newly released Disney+ show Are you sure?!which was filmed in 2023 before the singers signed up. The eight-episode travel series will air through September 19.
