Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been “fired” from Channel 4's late-night election coverage after continuing to talk about his book, according to the programme's co-host.
Krishnan Guru-Murthy, who together with colleague Emily Maitlis presented the US election results show America decidespresented an updated group of guests just later in the night with the former Tory leader absent – and it was unclear whether his departure was planned.
Alongside a varied lineup, included Succession star Brian Cox, adult film actor Stormy Daniels and acclaimed pollster Frank Lutz, Johnson had said he met with Republican Donald Trump after the July assassination attempt. He continued: “In case I didn't mention, I'm promoting my book Unleashedand I talked to him about Ukraine.”
Journalist Guru-Murthy told Johnson that holding his book for not even two minutes during the program was “so cheap” and told him to “put it away”. Johnson responded: “There is absolutely nothing you can do to stop me… I am allowed to plug my book.”
Maitlis said: “We're not all going to read your book, so just tell us, do you want to have a political comeback?” Johnson replied, “By the way, Emily, I've been answering all your questions all night. I am currently happily busy promoting my book Unleashedavailable in all good bookstores.
Later in the Channel 4 programme, Johnson was replaced by former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen. Guru-Murthy told viewers: “Boris Johnson was fired for insisting on his book.” Unleashed was released in the UK last month.

By winning Wisconsin, Trump surpassed the 270 electoral votes he needed to win the presidency, victory over Vice President Kamala Harris and a second non-consecutive term.
