Dan Stevens, memorable protagonist of Adam Wingard's thriller The guestreunites with director for his new action thriller, Assault.
Adria Arjona is the protagonist of the film made by A24, Lyrical Media and Ryder Picture Company. Filming will begin in November in New Mexico.
The functionality is already a reimagining of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire director with his frequent collaborator Simon Barrett. The two wrote cult hits You're next AND Guest. The latter was a key step into Hollywood for Stevens, who at that time was known primarily for his work in the popular British series Downton Abbey.
Lots of details for Assault are held in an underground experimental facility, but sources describe it as a bizarre action horror thriller.
Arjona plays a mother who calls on a particular set of skills to protect her loved ones after running afoul of a threat who has escaped from a secret military base. Pereira will play a character called The Butcher, and will bring his skills – including the anaconda choke and spinning kicks – to his meaty role.
In what appears to be a supporting role, Stevens will play a German scientist working on the experiments that escape.
Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett will produce Assault under the Ryder Picture Company banner together with A24. Alexander Black also produces for Lyrical Media. Wingard and manager Jeremy Platt will also produce the film, through their new Breakaway Civilization, alongside Barrett.
Lyrical and A24 will co-finance, while A24 will handle worldwide publishing. Lyrical's Jon Rosenberg and Natalie Sellers will executive produce A24.
Stevens is having a very genre-filled 2024. He has already collaborated with Wingard again for Godzilla x Kong, which grossed $571 million worldwide when it was released in March. Before that he was part of the ensemble of Universal's vampire thriller Abigail and in the summer he starred in the horror film Neon Cuckoo.
The actor is represented by CAA and the British Julian Belfrage Associates.
