Dana Carvey had to learn Jennifer Coolidge's impression at the last minute

Dana Carvey reveals how he ended up playing a century-old version of Jennifer Coolidge during one Saturday night live sketch last week.

The comedian, who has played Joe Biden since season 50 of the NBC sketch comedy show, which began last month, recently opened up about Superfly, his and David Spade's spin-off series Fly to the wall podcast, who has to learn his impression of the beloved actress at the last minute.

“They threw it at me Thursday night,” said Carvey, who was originally a cast member SNL from 1986 to 1993, he said. “They explained to me that the character was like a kind of Snow White, that my Jennifer Coolidge had been trapped in the mirror for hundreds of years.”

The sketch titled “Maybelline” featured Chloe Fineman's Jennifer Coolidge getting help wearing “Maybelline Super Stay Long Wear Liquid Lip Color” from Jennifer Coolidge's reflection in her mirror, played by host Ariana Grande. And then a third Coolidge (Carvey) was revealed in another mirror after Fineman asked, “Hey, I wonder what our lips look like from the side?”

“Thank God you opened the mirror,” Carvey said. “I've been trapped here for years!”

In the podcast, the comedian described the skit as “kind of an acid, esoteric sketch.” He added: “I still don't fully understand it, but it was fun.”

He also shared that, due to the timing, “they had to remove about four bars” between the dress rehearsal and the live show. “One was that we eat corn. It was a lot wilder, it was amazing. It was a non sequitur like, “Hey.” Oh. Let's eat some corn,'” Carvey said in his Coolidge voice. “Suddenly they have corn. 'Can I have your corn?'”

Carvey also played a video (below) for his ex's Spade SNL co-star Jon Lovitz filmed him backstage rehearsing his lines for Jennifer Coolidge's sketch.
