Dead block heads north. Amazon Prime Video The hit Australian murder mystery comedy drama has begun production on its second season, moving the action from Tasmania to the sweltering heat and humidity of the Northern Territory.
In June, it was revealed that Amazon had renewed Dead block. On Friday, the streamer offered more details, including a first look image and casting news for season two, which sees Detective Eddie Redcliffe (Madeleine Sami) and Sergeant Major Dulcie Collins (Kate Box) travel to Darwin to investigate the death of Eddie’s former police partner, Bushy. However, Eddie and Dulcie become embroiled in a larger mystery when the body of a local icon is discovered in a remote town smack in the middle of crocodile country.
The second season of six episodes of Dead block will feature some familiar faces, including police officer turned trainee forensic specialist Abby (Nina Oyama) and Dulcie’s loving but somewhat clingy wife Cath (Alicia Gardiner). With the new location, there will also be plenty of new characters, with the likes of Steve Bisley, Shari Sebbens, Genevieve Morris, Byron Coll, Nikki Britton, Anthony J Sharpe, Blake Pavey, Damien Garvey, Ngali Shaw, Bev Killick, Ling Cooper-Tang, Ursula Yovich, Syd Brisbane, Ines English and newcomer Lennox Monaghan joining the cast. Dead block Writer Jean Tong will also make her acting debut in season two, playing the role of a journalist who helps Eddie and Dulcie.
Created, written and produced by Kate McLennan and Kate McCartney, Dead block has proven to be a critical and ratings success for Amazon’s Australian original team, with the streamer revealing that the first season has become a smash hit on Prime Video, reaching the Top 10 TV Shows in more than 165 countries and territories on Prime Video, including the US, UK and Canada. Additionally, the series won five AACTA Awards earlier this year, including Best Comedy Performance for Box and Best Writing on Television for McCartney and McLennan. The show has also earned three nominations at the 2024 TV WEEK Logie Awards.
“We are so excited to bring season two of Dead block “to life in the beautiful Garramilla/Darwin and we are beyond thrilled to be working with this exceptional crew and cast of actors, dogs and crocodiles,” McLennan and McCartney said in a statement.
Dead block is co-produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video, Guesswork Television and OK Great Productions, with the support of Screen Queensland and Screen Territory.
