Gambit is alive!
Ryan Reynolds confirmed in a Deadpool and Wolverine deleted scene posted to his social media featuring Channing Tatum's Gambit surviving the fight in the void alongside Jennifer Garner's Elektra, Wesley Snipes' Blade, and Dafne Keen's Laura/X-23.
When the credits rolled, it was unclear whether any of the characters who had banded together to defeat Cassandra Nova's (Emma Corrin) henchmen had survived the battle. But at the very least, Tatum's now iconic and widely memed portrayal of Gambit made it out alive.
While the video doesn't reveal much, we see the character from behind, walking through some downed goons, before he turns around as the video pans to his face and he smiles.
There may not be any other Gambit projects in the works at the moment, but the fact that he is doing this 3rd part alive means he could return in a standalone film in the future or appear in another Marvel Cinematic Universe film.
Tatum was originally supposed to play the Cajun mutant in a standalone film, but the movie was canceled after Disney acquired 21st Century Fox.
In an Instagram post from the weekend Deadpool and Wolverine released in theaters, the Blink twice The star praised Reynolds for allowing him to bring Gambit to life when he thought he had lost him forever.
“[Reynolds] fought for me and Gambit. I will forever be in his debt. Because I don't know how I could ever do anything that would match what this has meant to me,” Tatum wrote. “I love you man. Also Shawn Levy. Such a brilliant creator on every single level. All things happen for a reason. I am so grateful to be in this movie. It is a masterpiece in my opinion. And just pure badass joy. I was literally screaming in the theater. LFG!!”
A week later, Reynolds continued the love fest, praising Tatum for his portrayal of the superhero in the box office hit.
“Gambit is a guy that Chan was born to play,” he said. Free boy star wrote. “His story is similar to mine, in that he's spent a decade trying to put the most comic-accurate version of Gambit on the big screen. Remy LeBeau has it in his soul and he needs to get out there and take stock. And Gambit has found its author in Chan. He's one of the coolest, smartest characters in comics and still largely unexplored. I want more of him, and from what I've seen in theaters, so do you. Having a chance to say goodbye to some of these heroes is just as important as having new characters to root for… and rooting for Gambit is easy. Rooting for Chan is even easier. He's one of the greatest, hardest-working, kindest people in this entire industry.”
