They might as well hold the Oscars in Savannah later this month, rather than in Hollywood early next year, because virtually every serious contender this awards season will soon be headed south for the SCAD Savannah Film Festival, taking place from October 26 to November 2.
A few days later the festival announced special honors for Annette Bening (career success), Jerry Bruckheimer (Young woman and the sea), Kieran Culkin (A real pain), Colman Domingo (Sing Sing), Karla Sofia Gascon (Emilia Perez), Jharrel Jerome (Unstoppable), Richard Linklater (Hitman), Mikey Madison (Anora), Isabela Mercede (Alien: Romulus), Steve McQueen (Blitz), Lupita Nyong'o (The wild robot) AND Margaret Ridley (Young woman and the sea AND Magpie), The Hollywood journalist he learned that 10 Moreover big names will head south to attend screenings and collect statuettes.
They include three Best Actress contenders: Demi Moore will receive the Icon Award at the screening of The substance; Amy Adams will receive the Award for best cinematographic achievement at the screening of Night time bitch; AND Marisa Abela will receive the Next Gen Award at the screening of Let's go back to Black.
The three best supporting actresses will also be present: Felicity Jones will receive the Spotlight Award at the screening of The brutalist; Natasha Lyonne will receive the Maverick Award at the screening of His three daughters; AND Margaret Qualley will receive the Luminary Award to the projection of The substance.
A trio of writer-directors will also be celebrated: Pablo Larraín will receive the Author Award at the closing night screening of Mary; Jason Reitmann will receive the Vanguard Director Award at the screening of Saturday evening; AND Ramell Ross will receive the Breakthrough Director Award at the screening of Nickel boys.
And the actor-director-producer Diego Luna will receive the Impact Award at the screening of the documentary State of silenceof which he and Gael García Bernal, his partner in the production company La Corriente del Golfo, were executive producers.
All this in addition to the deluge of top documentary filmmakers who will be in town for the 11th annual Docs to Watch panel, taking place on October 30.
