HBO has ordered a series for The Chair Companya comedy series co-created by and starring Tim Robinson of the Emmy-winning Netflix sketch show I think you should go away. Zach Kanin, Robinson's longtime collaborator on ITYSL, Saturday Night Live and Comedy Central The Citizens of Detroitco-created the show with Robinson; both will serve as writers and executive producers.
Adam McKay and Todd Schulman also executive produce through their HyperObject Industries banner, along with Igor Srubshchik. Andrew DeYoung, who directed Robinson's feature Friendship — directed and executive produced the pilot.
The Chair Company will follow a man named William Ronald Trosper (Robinson) who, after an embarrassing accident at work, finds himself investigating a far-reaching conspiracy.
“With a spin that only Tim and Zach can put on a character, William Ronald Trosper continues in the strong tradition of HBO comedy leads,” said Amy Gravitt, executive vice president of comedy programming for HBO and Max. “I couldn’t be happier to announce the acquisition of this incredibly entertaining show.”
Robinson and Kanin said in a statement: “We are so excited and grateful to be able to make this show with HBO, HyperObject and all the amazing cast and crew who helped create it.”
