Jimmy Kimmel appeals to Republicans ahead of the election

Jimmy Kimmel kicked off his latest episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! with a message directly for moderate Republicans.

Ahead of the show, the host posted on social media, asking people to “ask a Republican you love” to watch him on Wednesday night, as he has a “special monologue” for them.

“I assume you're watching it because you care about the person who asked you to watch it, or maybe you're just open-minded and not afraid to hear someone speak who might not agree with you,” Kimmel said to give the away. the show. “Anyway, thanks for giving me 15 minutes of your life to talk about Donald Trump. Maybe you love him and will vote for him no matter what he says or what he does. Maybe you hate the other party so much that you will look past anything they say or do. Or maybe there's a little voice in the back of your head that says, “I might not want this guy to drive the bus.”

The host continued: “But what I ask you to hear is not what I have to say, it doesn't matter. I want you to listen to what he's saying. Most Americans – and you're probably one of them – don't have time to watch his rallies, speeches and all the interviews. because you have other things to do. But I have nothing else to do. That's all I have to do. And because I have nothing else to do, I have seen all or at least part of every interview, every speech, every all-caps social media post by this man for the past nine years.

During Wednesday's episode's nearly 20-minute monologue, Kimmel emphasized to “just focus on the words that came out of his [Trump’s] mouth.” It played dozens of clips of the former president making comments on a range of topics, including his health care plan that he has teased since 2016, child care, windmills and things that are “not real “.

“Shouldn't you run for president? Shouldn't you worry about important topics? Kimmel asked at one point. “And here's the thing, he's kind of funny, this stupid, random talk of his, and it would be fine if he were hosting a podcast or selling knives at the farmers market. But he should be the one to lead us. People listen to him and the country is getting crazier and crazier because he makes it okay to be crazy.”

Next, the host pointed out that presidents typically don't sell products. However, there is one “that sells a lot”. Kimmel went on to show a video montage of all of Trump's ads for the products he sells, including Trump coins, coffee table books, trading cards and a “God Bless the USA” Bible, among others.

After noting that several Republicans and former members of the Trump administration confessed that they do not support Trump in this election, Kimmel began to end his monologue with a message.

“Either he doesn't care about the truth or he has difficulty understanding what the truth is. Both terrible options!” he said. “So now we have the election on Tuesday and Trump made it very clear that if he won, it would be a fair election. And if he loses, it will be a rigged election.”

Kimmel continued: “He has no plan to lower food prices or to make us safer or to secure the border. The only plans he has are filing lawsuits, legal challenges, settling scores, and punishing his enemies. … He wants to transform it into 'Of me, by me, for me'”.

“Listen, politics is like sports in many ways. You probably root for the team your dad supports. Maybe you've been a Republican your whole life. This is your team and it seems wrong not to vote for them. But this time you won't be alone. You have a lot of company,” he added. “Most elections are about politics. This isn't. It's about sanity, safety and democracy.”
