Julia Louis-Dreyfus recalls first 'heartbreaking' SNL moment

Julia Louis-Dreyfus recalls a humiliating moment she experienced during her childhood Saturday night live days.

THE Vep the actress and comedian looked back at her early career in Hollywood on a recent episode of Lemonada Media Wiser than me podcast, including one of his first memories with the sketch comedy show that didn't necessarily go as planned.

“When I was just starting out, I was part of the Practical Theater company in Chicago,” he explained. “The producers of SNL they came to see the show and really liked it, and they booked all of us to come to New York and be a part of it SNL.”

At the time, Louis-Dreyfus said that she and three other “total and complete strangers” were asked to perform the first act of the show in SNL office “under fluorescent lights in broad daylight in front of 20 very cynical, rude people SNL cast members and writers who already hated us because a bunch of their best friends had just been fired to make room for us.

“We never had a chance. The sketches they had killed in Chicago died a terrible, terrible death that day. It was heartbreaking,” the Seinfeld the alum continued. “I think the humiliation affected everything about us SNL experience for the next two years, to be honest. … I learned a lot from that awkward day in a carpeted office on the 17th floor of 30 Rock.”

Louis-Dreyfus joined SNL as a cast member from 1982 to 1985, alongside Eddie Murphy, Billy Crystal, Martin Short, Jim Belushi, and Brad Hall, whom she later married. He has also hosted the sketch comedy series three times over the years.
