Justin Chambers wants more “adversarial” roles after Grey's Anatomy

Justin Chambers is ready to “play someone so different” from his character onwards Grey's Anatomy.

The actor, who played Dr. Alex Karev for 16 seasons on the medical drama series before announcing his exit in 2020, used his guest appearance on the crime anthology series Accused as the type of role he is looking to play in the future.

“What attracted me was the chance to play someone so different from Alex Karev,” Chambers recently said We weekly. “After years of being a familiar face as Karev, it was exciting to step into a more complex and antagonistic role and show a different side of myself as an actor.”

While Chambers had fun Grey's Anatomy and appreciates all the opportunities he has been given, he also had a lot of fun working on something that was the complete opposite of the popular ABC show.

Grey's Anatomy it gave me a freedom that many actors don't often experience, and now I'm excited to explore passion projects both inside and outside of Hollywood,” the actor explained. “I'm choosing to follow my heart in all of my artistic and commercial activities. I really prefer to be part of a good narrative, no matter how long it is. For me it's not about quantity, but about quality of story and acting. I want to tell stories that deal with real issues, like the ones in Accused.”

The Chambers joined together first Grey's Anatomy when it premiered in 2005. Then, after 16 seasons, he announced that he would be leaving the show in 2020, only after its last episode aired on November 14, 2019.

As for whether Chambers would be interested in returning for a larger storyline on the Fox crime drama following his appearance in a Season 2 episode, the actor said he's “open.”

“It felt like making a little movie as each episode is self-contained,” he added. “Working on something where you know the ending, unlike other projects, is really exciting. I think people will be looking forward to new episodes and new storylines Accused.”
