It was like looking in the mirror during the Saturday night live opened cold as Kamala Harris gave herself a little pep talk before Election Day on Tuesday.
The real-life vice president made a surprise visit to the NBC sketch comedy series on Saturday, where she took a moment to chat with Maya Rudolph, who has played Harris since season 50 began in September.
“Well, this is the last stop of the campaign in Pennsylvania. Man, I just wish I could talk to someone who's been in my shoes,” Rudolph says. “You know, a black South Asian woman running for president, preferably from the Bay Area.”
That's when she turns to look at herself in the mirror and Harris is sitting on the other side looking at her. “It's good to see you Kamala,” Harris says in real life. “And I'm just here to remind you that you understand why you can do something that your opponent can't do. You can open doors.
After Rudolph breaks out in his iconic imitation of the vice president's laugh, he says, “Now Kamala, take my palm-wing.”
That's when they start finishing each other's sentences: “The American people want to stop the chaos and end the drama-wing with a cool new stepmom. Look, put on your pajamas and look at a rom-Kamala, like Legally blonde-wing. And start decorating for Christmas, Fa-la-la-la-la.
“Because what do we always say?” Rudolph asks before they say in unison, “Hold Kamala and go forward-wing.”
“We know each other so well,” Rudolph adds. “We even ended our mutual trust in the promise of America.”
John Mulaney returned to Studio 8H to host the sketch comedy show for the sixth time on Saturday, alongside musical guest Chappell Roan.
More to come.
