The 2024 Location Managers Guild Awards were presented on Saturday night.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 AND Oppenheimer were among the winners of the film while Fall, Fargo AND Ripley were among the TV winners.
Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning – Part 1 — shot in Norway, the UK and Italy — has secured exceptional locations in a contemporary feature film. Oppenheimerfilmed in New Mexico, followed up its Oscar win with the award for Best Location in a Period Film.
Fall — shot in Utah, New York and Namibia — achieved great results in exceptional locations for a period drama television series. FargoSeason 5, filmed in Alberta, Canada, scored some excellent locations for a contemporary TV series. Ripleyfilmed around Italy, won Outstanding Locations in a Television Program Serial, Anthology, Movie of the Week or Limited Series. All three series were nominated for multiple Emmy Awards this year.
Toyota: “Present from the Past” (filmed in Washington State) won Best Commercial while Film in Iceland for True Detective: The Land of the Night won the award for best film commission.
The Motion Picture & Television Fund was honored with the LMGI Humanitarian Award, overseen by location manager Sue Quinn (the Fantastic Beasts, Harry Potter AND Pirates of the Caribbean franchising) received the Lifetime Achievement Award and location manager Bill Bowling (Jupiter Ascending, Cloud Atlas) was awarded the Trailblazer Award.
Rachel Harris (Suits, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, The Hangover) hosted the event at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills. The awards honor films, television programs and commercials in which the creative use of filming locations establishes tone, enriches character and enhances the narrative of the story.
