Michelle Garza Cervera directs the film, which is produced by Ted Field of Radar Pictures and Michael Schaefer and Mike Larocca through their production company, Department M.
The project adapts the 1992 thriller originally released by Buena Vista Pictures and directed by Curtis Hanson. Rebecca De Mornay played a twisted widow who, distraught over the loss of her baby, insinuates herself into a family as a nanny, with the ultimate goal of taking the children and the husband for herself. Annabella Sciorra played the mother.
The reimagining was conceived by Cervera and written by Micah Bloomberg. The project is seen as a two-hander, with sources saying Monroe was the first choice for the role of the nanny.
Over the past decade, Monroe has become a queen of modern horror with her performances in intelligent, high-concept thrillers, mostly in the indie genre.
