Mariah Carey announced on Monday that she lost her mother and sister on the same day last weekend.
“My heart is broken because I lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life the same day,” the Grammy winner said. People. “I feel blessed to have been able to spend the last week with my mother before she passed away. I appreciate everyone's love, support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”
Carey did not reveal the causes of death of the two women, nor their ages. The Hollywood Reporter contacted for further comments.

Despite the hardships, the singer dedicated her memoir to her mother. In the book, she also wrote that her relationship with her sister, Alison, was tenuous and that, at the time, it was “emotionally and physically safer for me to have no contact” with her or her brother, Morgan.
Alison, Mariah, and Morgan were the three children of Patricia and Alfred Carey, who divorced when Mariah was three. Her father was not very involved in her childhood, and died about 20 years ago.
