Michael Cera and Emilia Jones are tying their shoes The running man.
Both actors have made deals to join Glen Powell in Paramount's adaptation of the Stephen King story, directed by Edgar Wright. For Cera, this move reunites him with the director behind one of his most beloved roles, that of 2010's romantic slacker Scott Pilgrim. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.
Josh Brolin, Katy O'Brian (Love lies bleeding) and Lee Pace are already on the call sheet for the film which will shoot in London early next year.
King Running Manpublished in 1982 and written under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, it is set in 2025 in an America under a totalitarian regime that uses violent game shows to appease the disenfranchised masses.
The novel centers on a desperate man named Ben Richards, looking for money for his sick daughter, who joins the most popular show, The running manin which teams of assassins hunt down competitors. The longer a competitor survives, the more money that person makes. But as the show's producers and killers will discover, this desperate man will break all the rules and reveal the show's dark secrets.
Jones will play a privileged woman blind to government oppression, unlike Powell's Richards.
Cera will play a naive rebel who tries to help the desperate man.
Brolin, meanwhile, plays the game show's ruthless producer, O'Brian will play one of the show's contestants, and Pace will play the brutal head hunter who tracks down Powell's character.
Paramount will release the film on November 21, 2025. Simon Kinberg, Nira Park and Wright are producing.
Last year, Cera reprized his character of Pilgrim in Netflix's hit animated show Scott Pilgrim takes off. The actor had a starring cameo Barbie and co-stars alongside Amy Schumer in the Hulu drama Life and Beth.
Jones, who was one of the stars of Netflix Locke and key series, has spent time since then TAILhe won Oscars starring in several independent films, including 2023 Cat persondirected by Susanna Fogel, e Winnerin which she played the former Reality Winner of the US Air Force office.
