Nathan Crowley will receive the EnergaCamerimage Production Designer Award

Poland's pioneering EnergaCamerimage International Film Festival revealed Tuesday that industry veteran Nathan Crowley will receive a special award for achievements in production design at the event's upcoming 32nd edition in Toruń.

Crowley is best known for his long collaboration with Christopher Nolan, which earned him an Oscar nomination for production design The prestige, The Dark Knight, Interstellar, Dunkirk AND Principle (It was also nominated for Damien Chazelle First Man). On the small screen, he earned an Emmy nomination for his work on the HBO series Westworld. Not slowing down at all, his recent work includes adaptations of Wonka AND Evil 1 and 2and he will be the next to design the new one Avengers film for the Russo brothers by Marvel Films.

“Known for his hands-on approach to scenography, Crowley excels at creating immersive, detailed worlds, blending traditional and modern techniques,” Camerimage organizers said in a statement.

Crowley began his career in Islington, London, after studying at the Brighton School of Art in the United Kingdom. In the early 1990s he moved to Hollywood, where he got his break as second unit art director on Francis Ford Coppola's film. Bram Stoker's Draculausing practical techniques performed directly in front of the camera.

Crowley's career took him to Dublin, Ireland, where he worked on films directed by Barry Levinson and Joel Schumacher. His return to the United States proved pivotal, as he began his collaboration with Nolan Insomnia in 2002.

Outside of film, Crowley designed four exhibitions for the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, which accompanied the Met Gala, and collaborated with Sofia Coppola for La Traviata at the Rome Opera House. He is also known for his design of the Space Watch for Hamilton, ODC X-03.

The EnergaCameriaimage festival will open on November 16th with the gala screening of Blitzthe latest feature film by Oscar winner Steve McQueen. Cate Blanchett was named president of the event's main competition jury, and Shogun star Hiroyuki Sanada will receive a brand new honor for Best Performance in a TV Series. EnergaCameriaimage concludes with the awards ceremony on November 23rd.
