Adaptation of the Netflix series by The man on fire is adding to its cast.
Alice Braga (Queen of the South, Dark Matter) joined the drama as a series regular, and Scoot McNairy (A complete stranger, stop and catch fire) and Paul Ben Victor (Nobody wants that, The Wire) will have recurring roles. The man on fire is based on the novels by AJ Quinnell, which previously served as the source material for a 2004 film starring Denzel Washington and a 1987 Italian film starring Scott Glenn.
The series, ordered by Netflix in March 2023, centers on John Creasy (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), a former Special Forces mercenary who now suffers from intense post-traumatic stress disorder. Determined to overcome his personal demons, he embarks on a path to redemption. But before he can adjust to this new life, he finds himself back in the fire, fighting harder than ever. Billie Boullet and Bobby Cannavale are also part of the cast.
Braga will play Valeria Melo, a professional driver with family ties to a gang that runs a favela in Brazil. Creasy hires her and quickly begins to rely on her as he tries to protect a young girl while chasing terrorists.
McNairy will play Henry Tappan, a smart and calculating CIA field agent stationed in Brazil. Ben-Victor will play Moncrief, the director of the CIA.
The eight-episode thriller comes from showrunner Kyle Killen (Halo, awake). He is an executive producer with Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan and Natalie Lehmann for New Regency Productions, which owns the rights to the property; Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping and Tracey Cook for Chernin Entertainment; Scott Pennington of Killen's Chapter Eleven banner; director Steven Caple Jr., who will direct the first two episodes; and Ed McDonnell, Michael Polaire, Abdul-Mateen and Stacy Perskie of RedRum.
Braga is repped by WME and Greenberg Glusker. McNairy is represented by UTA. Ben-Victor is represented by Independent Artist Group and Alan Siegel Entertainment.
