An opulent coastal setting, a dead body, a bunch of quick shots of police interrogations and Nicole Kidman. It's not Big Little Lies third season: This is The Perfect Couple, the star-studded Netflix limited series, for which a full trailer was released just a couple of days before its September 5th air date.
The trailer (watch below) centers on the wealthy Winbury family, led by writer Greer (Kidman) and her husband Tag (Liev Schreiber), as they prepare for their son Benji's (Billy Howle) wedding to Amelia Sacks (Eve Hewson). Things go awry when a dead body washes up on the beach, making everyone a suspect, as no one, apparently, tells the local cops (played by Michael Beach and Donna Lynne Champlin) the whole truth.
The trailer features several scenes of talking to investigators in an interrogation room, shades of the first season of Big Little Lies (which also starred Kidman.) It also leans toward a guilty pleasure vibe with a tongue-in-cheek soundtrack of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” and titles that invite viewers to “devour the most delicious, indulgent, and shocking spectacle on TV.”
The series also stars Dakota Fanning, Jack Reynor, Ishaan Khatter, Meghann Fahy, Sam Nivola, Mia Isaac and Isabelle Adjani.
The perfect couple is based on the best-selling novel by Elin Hilderbrand; Jenna Lamia (Good girls, embarrassing) adapted the novel and serves as showrunner. Lamia executive produces with director Susanne Bier (The Night Agent, the Ruin), Hilderbrand, Shawn Levy of 21 Laps Entertainment, Gail Berman and Hend Baghdady of The Jackal Group, Kidman and Per Saari of Blossom Films and Josh Barry.
