Olivia Nuzzi Takes Leave From New York Magazine Over Alleged Affair With RFK Jr.

New York Magazine placed Washington correspondent Olivia Nuzzi on leave after discovering she was having an alleged affair with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., according to reports.

The magazine shared in a statement with The Hollywood Reporter On Thursday, “Our Washington correspondent Olivia Nuzzi recently admitted to the magazine's editors that she had a personal relationship with a former 2024 campaign source while reporting on the campaign, a violation of the magazine's standards for conflicts of interest and disclosure.”

“Had the magazine been aware of this relationship, it would not have continued to cover the presidential campaign,” the statement continued. “An internal review of his published work found no inaccuracies or evidence of bias. He is currently on leave from the magazine, and the magazine is conducting a more thorough third-party review. We regret this breach of our readers’ trust.”

New York Magazine He did not name Kennedy, but people familiar with the matter said StateOliver Darcy said Nuzzi did not proactively disclose his alleged affair with Kennedy and that the magazine only recently learned about it. Darcy said the alleged affair began around the new year, following Nuzzi's November 2023 profile on the former presidential candidate.

Nuzzi is something of a wunderkind of political journalism, having dropped out of Fordham University to cover politics for The Everyday Beast. (A year earlier, in 2013, Nuzzi had also made headlines when she wrote accounts of her time as an intern on Anthony Weiner’s mayoral campaign that inspired profanity-filled quotes from the campaign’s communications director to Talking Points Memo.) Nuzzi had become famous during Donald Trump’s presidency for her in-depth reporting and research into the Trump White House. After Trump’s assassination attempt in July, Trump had let Nuzzi inspect his injured ear, which became the lead-in to a feature story she wrote for New York Magazine.

Last month, Kennedy dropped his third-party presidential bid and endorsed Trump. He has been married to actress Cheryl Hines since 2014.

The Hollywood Reporter contacted Nuzzi and Kennedy for comments.
