The Stars are making one last push for Kamala Harris.
Oprah Winfrey, Lady Gaga, DJ Cassidy, Fat Joe, Ricky Martin and The Roots are part of a top-notch lineup for Harris' concert and rally in Philadelphia set for Monday night, on the eve of Election Day 2024.
Freeway, Just Blaze, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Jazmine Sullivan and Adam Blackstone have also been called upon to mobilize voters for a final call-to-vote event, which will begin at 5pm local time and run until 9pm DJ Jazzy Jeff , Fat Joe and Winfrey are the speakers.
The Vote for Freedom rally is the Get Out The Vote campaign's latest effort before Election Day on Tuesday. The event will take place at the foot of the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. For weeks, the campaign had been promoting a get-out-the-vote rally and concert with a “surprise musical guest” to be scheduled for the final week before the election.
“It's time to get ready to vote — see you in Pennsylvania,” Lady Gaga said in a video on her Instagram.
Harris will also be joined by husband Doug Emhoff at the Philadelphia campaign stop after attending a Get Out The Vote rally and concert earlier in the day in Pittsburgh with Katy Perry, Andra Day and D-Nice.
“These artists and public figures are trusted voices for millions of Americans, who listen to their music, follow them on social media, or are otherwise inspired by them,” the campaign said in the event announcement, according to reports.
The demonstrations on the eve of the 2024 election follow an outpouring of support from Hollywood in the final days leading up to November 5, including an endorsement of the Houston rally by top supporter Beyoncé, a Saturday night live an appearance from Harris herself (suggesting the same amount of time given to Donald Trump on Sunday by NBC) and other high-profile endorsements from the likes of Harrison Ford, Jennifer Lawrence and Will.i.am.
A senior campaign official recently spoke about the impact of celebrities getting out the vote for Harris, noting how the campaign's strategic use of DJs, videos, songs and celebrities throughout Harris' campaign speaks to both the environment of hope that of optimism that Harris seeks to create and helps reiterate his message that “everyone has a home with us.”
DJ Cassidy, for example, helped rally the Democratic National Convention with a one-of-a-kind dance party; Winfrey was also a surprise speaker at the convention. A recent NBC News poll shows the Democratic and Republican presidential candidates tied as of Tuesday. “It will be a close election. Every single vote will matter,” said producer Will Packer THR this week about how he, among others, is helping push the vote for Harris to Black Men before Tuesday.
The official – speaking about the background to reporters last week, including The Hollywood journalist — said the surge in celebrities speaking out, some for the first time politically and through nonpolitical channels, is due to the high-stakes 2024 election between Harris and Trump. The organic response on social media, even with developments like Nicky Jam revoking his support for Trump after controversial comments about Puerto Rico at the former president's Madison Square Garden rally.
The official said this type of activity is being successful and playing an important role in how the campaign is closing out, as it shows “how important it is to reach voters and be very clear” about the difference between the two candidates who are are heading towards Tuesday.
