Oprah Winfrey is delving into the field of artificial intelligence.
Winfrey will host an ABC special titled Artificial Intelligence and Our Future: Oprah Winfrey on September 12, during which he will speak with some leading figures in the AI industry, including Microsoft founder Bill Gates and OpenAI head Sam Altman, as well as FBI Director Christopher Wray and a couple of skeptical voices.
The hour-long special is Winfrey’s second this year; in March, she led a discussion on weight loss and wellness related to the rise of weight-loss drugs like Ozempic, Mounjaro and Wegovy.
In addition to Gates, Altman, and Wray, the special will feature interviews with technologist and YouTube tech reviewer Marcus Brownlee; Tristan Harris and Aza Raskin, co-founders of the Center for Humane Technology who warn of the risks of AI growing too quickly and too powerfully; and author Marilynne Robinson, who “reflects on the threat of AI to human values and ways humans might resist the convenience of AI,” according to ABC’s description.
The goal of the hour, according to ABC, is to “provide a serious, entertaining and meaningful foundation for every viewer to understand artificial intelligence and enable everyone to take part in one of the most important global conversations of the 21st century.”
Artificial Intelligence and Our Future is produced by Winfrey’s Harpo Productions. Winfrey and Josh Tyrangiel of Backstory Partners serve as executive producers. Below is a promo for the special.
