Iconic Canadian actress Pamela Anderson will be honored at the 20th Zurich Film Festival (ZFF) with the festival's Golden Eye award in honor of her “versatile career.” Anderson will present her latest feature film, Gia Coppola's The Last Dancerat the 2024 Zurich Festival and will receive the award on October 4.
In The Last DancerPremiering in Toronto, Anderson plays Shelley, a fifty-year-old dancer who is about to end her long-running show in Las Vegas. DAYThe review praised her performance, which was delivered “with a sense of pure heartbreak.”
“She immersed herself completely in her character, disrupted Shelley’s inner life with her facial expressions and made sure we sympathized with her,” said ZFF artistic director Christian Jungen, who called Anderson’s performance in the film “a terrific performance, perhaps the best of her career, which deserves an Oscar nomination.”
The Last Dancer co-stars Jamie Lee Curtis as Annette, Shelley’s co-worker who helps her navigate an uncertain future, Billie Lourd as her estranged daughter Hannah, and Kiernan Shipka and Brenda Song as two of Shelley’s younger co-workers. Dave Bautista plays Eddie, the show’s stage manager who has a personal history with Shelley.
Anderson and director Gia Coppola will present The Last Dancer to the festival audience after the Golden Eye awards ceremony.
Other celebrities to be honored in Zurich this year include Alicia Vikander, Jude Law, and Kate Winslet. Roeg Sutherland, co-head of CAA’s Media Finance department and its International Film Group, will receive ZFF’s Game Changer Award for his extraordinary achievements and contributions to the film industry.
The 20th edition of the Zurich Film Festival will take place from 3 to 13 October.
