Perry Farrell Punches Dave Navarro During Jane's Addiction Tour

Jane's Addiction's concert in Boston on Friday came to an abrupt end after singer Perry Farrell punched guitarist Dave Navarro, apparently out of the blue, while the reunited band was playing “Ocean Size.”

Several social media users shared videos of the incident during the show, in which Farrell can be seen getting angry and yelling “Fuck you” at Navarro before hitting him with his shoulder.

The guitarist looked visibly confused as the singer continued to push him and then punched him. “What the fuck?” Navarro said as crew members attempted to restrain Farrell and drag him off the stage, telling him to “stop.” Navarro then took off his guitar strap and began walking away, ending the concert.

After the singer was carried off stage, the rest of the band members approached Navarro on stage and comforted him, while the audience applauded.

The Hollywood Reporter contacted representatives for the band, which has not yet spoken publicly about the incident.

However, after the concert, Farrell's wife, Etty Lau Farrell, shared her side of the story on Instagram in a lengthy post.

“Clearly there had been a lot of tension and animosity between the members… the magic that made the band so dynamic,” he wrote. “Well, the dynamite was lit. Perry got up in Dave's face and gave him a boost.”

He continued, “Perry's frustration was mounting, night after night, he felt that the stage volume was extremely high and his voice was being drowned out by the band. Perry suffered from tinnitus and a sore throat every night. But when the audience in the front row started complaining until Perry swore at him that the band was playing too loud and they couldn't hear him, Perry lost it.”

Etty Lau Farrell explained that the band started singing “Ocean Size” before Farrell was ready and started counting, and he couldn't hear over the “boom and vibration” of the instruments, so much so that he started screaming just to be heard.

After Farrell attempted to hit Navarro, the singer's wife said bassist Eric Avery put Farrell in a headlock and punched him three times in the stomach. She added that when a crew member pulled Avery away, he went to the front of the stage and apologized to the audience.

“Perry was a crazed beast for the next half hour, not calming down at the end, but breaking down and crying and crying,” she continued in her lengthy caption. “Eric, well, either didn't understand what de-escalation meant or took advantage of the situation and fired a few low blows at Perry.”

Jane's Addiction's reunion tour kicked off in August. Before the accident, the band was set to take the stage again on Sunday in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
