It's a Disney Channel reunion!
Raven-Symoné and Danielle Fishel will return to the channel for the The Wizards of Waverly Place restart, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place — this time as directors. The actresses, who both had their own shows on Disney — This is so Raven AND Girl Meets the World — will appear behind the camera in some episodes of the first season of the remake.
Disney also revealed that the first two episodes of the sequel series will debut on Disney Channel on October 29, followed by all eight episodes becoming available on Disney+ on October 30.
Wizards Beyond Waverly Place follows Justin Russo (David Henrie), who has chosen to live a normal, mortal life with his wife Giada (Mimi Gianopulos) and their two sons, Roman (Alkaio Thiele) and Milo (Max Matenko).
However, according to the synopsis, when his sister, Alex (Selena Gomez), brings Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown) to his home seeking help, “Justin realizes he must dust off his magical skills to mentor the wizard-in-training while also juggling his day-to-day responsibilities and safeguarding the future of the Wizarding World.
While Gomez is not intended to be a recurring character in the series The Wizards of Waverly Place reboot, will guest star in the first episode. She and Henrie serve as executive producers on the series, along with Jed Elinoff, Scott Thomas, Gary Marsh and Jonas Agin.
THE how I Met Your Mother actor had previously teased what it was like to reunite with his on-screen sister. “It was amazing. We didn't want it to end. It was great,” Henrie said of filming with the Only murders in the building star again more than 10 years after the original series ended. “She's so good. She has such a quick wit that she's become even stronger.”
He also noted that there are some scenes in the first episode that will make fans of the original series “sigh.”
