Reading & Leeds Festival has apologised for cutting Lana Del Rey’s concert short on Saturday night.
Del Rey was performing as the penultimate headliner of the Reading leg of the Reading & Leeds festival when during a fireworks display at the end of her set, the singer's microphone went dead. According to online reports, she sat and watched the fireworks with her fans for the remaining five minutes, and was unable to finish the performance.
“Due to an error by the Reading production team, we accidentally cut 5 minutes off Lana Del Rey's incredible set,” the festival wrote on Instagram Sunday. “We sincerely apologize to Lana and her fans.”
Del Rey's performance on Saturday was followed by a set from DJ and producer Fred Again.
Further reports added that the “Normal Fucking Rockwell” singer started her set 10-15 minutes late and that this year's festival was plagued by bad weather. Others complained about poor sound quality throughout the festival, with fans online claiming they couldn't hear the performances due to the noise from the loud techno acts. A review by The Telegraph read: “The queen of nuanced pop deserved better than this travesty.”
The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to the festival and Del Rey for comment. The singer will play the Leeds leg of the festival on Sunday.
