What will season 4 of “Emily in Paris” be about?
Netflix has shared the following official synopsis for season four: “After the dramatic events of Camille and Gabriel's unhappy marriage, Emily is reeling: she has strong feelings for two men, but now Gabriel is pregnant with his ex's baby, and Alfie's worst fears about her and Gabriel are confirmed. At work, Sylvie is forced to confront a thorny dilemma from her past for the sake of her marriage, and the team at Agence Grateau grapples with personnel changes. Mindy and the band prepare for Eurovision, but when funding runs out, they are forced to be thrifty. Emily and Gabriel's chemistry is undeniable as they work together towards a Michelin star, but two big secrets threaten to undo everything they've dreamed of.”
In a video announcing the air dates for the series’ fourth season, Collins and the rest of the cast gave a taste of the new season by sharing three words they think describe the episodes.
Collins previously shared a video with viewers during Netflix's TUDUM fan event over the summer, where he teased a bit of what people can expect, mostly “answers” to all the big cliffhangers in season three. Will Emily and Gabriel finally get together? Is Alfie still heartbroken? Will Gabriel get his Michelin star? Will Mindy and the band go to Eurovision?
“It's safe to say we ended last season on a dramatic note, and surprise! It doesn't end there,” she said in the video, adding, “What I can say is that we have more fun, more fashion, and of course, more drama in store for you all. Emily will have to decide if everything she's ever wanted is really what she needs, and while Emily's heart will always remain true to Paris, her life will take some unexpected turns this season. Don't be surprised to find her on a Roman holiday.”
In interviews since the end of season 3, Star has teased other things she wants to explore in the next season, such as Camille and Sofia's relationship. There's also a lot of uncertainty in the air with Mindy and Nicolas (Paul Forman). What's her position with Benoit (Kevin Dias)?
“Nicolas is a very intelligent character, but I think he's also a complicated guy,” the creator said. TV Guide. “I think she's a little bit of the old Mindy, which she's very comfortable with. Benoit is a little bit more of her artistic soul, and I think there's a real struggle. She has both sides of herself competing for her priority.”
Star also explained that season four will be even more about navigating complicated personal and work relationships than it has been so far. The season three finale kind of blew things up for Alfie, Gabirel, Camille and Emily, who all work together in some capacity, live in the same area and are intertwined in each other's lives in more ways than one.
As the show expanded from one point of view (Emily's) to a more ensemble point of view, the showrunner said Charm predicts that audiences will get to know Sylvie and other characters even more than they do at this point. “From the beginning, she’s a character who doesn’t want to be known,” she explained to the magazine of the marketing executive. “You see stories from different points of view. I think now that we’re seeing the world a little bit from Sylvie’s point of view, we’re going to learn more about Sylvie.”
While Star isn't sure exactly how long he'd like the series to continue, he has several ideas for how it might end, but isn't tied to any possible ending storyline.
“As the show evolves, so does your idea of where the characters are going,” he said. “They create their own momentum when you introduce new characters. The characters take on a life of their own, as they take you in an unexpected direction. So, I don’t like to have hard and fast ideas about where it should end because I feel like, like in life, the characters will take you in different directions.”
