Netflix will explore Silicon Valley in its upcoming drama series.
The streamer won a bidding war by giving the series a straight order Thumbs downset in the epicenter of the tech industry. The series comes from The morning show AND Pachinko Producer Media Res and creator Scott Z. Burns (The reportApple TV+ Extrapolations); NYU marketing professor and podcaster Scott Galloway is an executive producer. Rosamund Pike (The Wheel of Time, Saltburn) will star and executive produce.
Netflix describes Thumbs down as “a corporate thriller set in Silicon Valley that examines the schemes, rivalries, visions and obsessions of the powerful and their underlings as they vie for control of the most powerful industry the world has ever known.” For now, details about Pike's role in the show are being kept under wraps.
The series is one of two Silicon Valley-set series in the works. CBS is also developing a legal drama called Cupertino from Bad AND The Good Fight creators Robert and Michelle King.
Burns will serve as showrunner for the series. His writing credits also include feature films The Informant!, Contagion AND The coin-operated laundryand directed episodes of Showtime The loudest voice AND Californication Furthermore ExtrapolationsApple's anthology on climate change.
The show marks the first involvement in a scripted show for Galloway, who co-hosts the Pin podcast with technology journalist Kara Swisher and has written a book about tech giants Apple, Amazon, Facebook, and Google.
Burns, Galloway and Pike executive produce alongside Greg Jacobs, Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer for Media Res.
Pike is repped by CAA, United Agents in the UK, Magnolia Entertainment and Prosper PR. Burns is with UTA and Jackoway Austen.
