Warner Bros. Discovery has hired Shauna Spenley to lead its streaming marketing efforts.
Spenley will serve as global CMO of direct-to-consumer, succeeding Patrizio (Pato) Spagnoletto, who will leave WBD later this fall. He will be responsible for leading all marketing, subscriber growth and retention, search and other key areas for WBD’s streaming products, including Max and Discovery+.
He will report to JB Perrette, CEO and president of Global Streaming and Games.
“It's a privilege to join this phenomenal team. I've been a Max subscriber and fan since its launch. The incredible breadth of content is unmatched in the industry, including television's most prestigious brand… HBO,” Spenley said in a statement. “I can't wait to join and begin working with JB, Casey and the marketing team. I believe we are incredibly positioned to build on Max's recent momentum and grow it into a leading global streamer.”
Spenley most recently served as president of entertainment at Riot Games and previously served as vice president of marketing and advertising at Netflix.
“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity WBD has given me and proud of the momentum we have built around Max,” Spagnoletto said. “While this is just the beginning chapter for Max, it is a great time to transition and I have every confidence that Shauna and the incredible team here will succeed in making Max a premier entertainment destination in the world.”
“We are so fortunate to be able to bring in a talent of Shauna’s caliber and it speaks volumes about our success, our resources and team, and the opportunities we have ahead of us that she is eager to join our One WBD Team. I have the utmost confidence in Shauna and the entire team to deliver exceptional results as we move forward together,” said Perrette.
