The Swifties for Kamala coalition is “thrilled” that Taylor Swift has publicly endorsed Kamala Harris for president.
In a statement shared Wednesday following Tuesday’s presidential debate between Vice President Harris and former President Donald Trump, Swift took to Instagram to endorse Vice President Harris’ presidential candidacy.
“Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight,” he wrote in a lengthy post. “If you haven’t already, this is a great time to do some research on the issues at hand and where these candidates stand on the topics that matter to you. As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about their policy proposals and plans for this country.”
“I was recently notified that an AI of 'me' falsely endorsing Donald Trump's presidential run was posted on his website. It really brought to mind my fears about AI and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It led me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The easiest way to fight misinformation is with the truth.”
Swift then announced that she will vote for Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 election.
“Swifties For Kamala (S4K) is thrilled that Taylor Swift has endorsed Kamala Harris for President and Tim Walz for Vice President. As we've said before, we never doubted that Taylor would endorse at the right time because we know her values align with Harris and our community. We're excited to see the momentum she'll bring to this campaign.”
The coalition noted that since its formation, it has “amassed more than 3,500 active volunteers, gained more than 280,000 social media followers, raised more than $150,000 for Harris’s campaign,” and “mobilized more than 90,000 people to take action and verify their voter registration.”
“Through our partnership with Shop Social Goods, we were able to donate over $13,000 to voter registration efforts.”
“We are confident that Taylor's words will have a positive impact and encourage more people to join us in our mission to elect Vice President Harris. Taylor has always inspired us Swifties to be Fearless and to Speak Now, and we are excited to take those efforts to the next level as we race toward the end of this critical election. We will continue to mobilize our volunteers and activate our community with voter outreach efforts.”
With Swift’s Harris-Walz endorsement coming the night of the Harris-Trump presidential debate, the Swift effect will be harder to spot, with her message coming on such a pivotal night in the election cycle. Her first public political endorsement in 2018, when she backed two Democratic candidates in Tennessee, led to a surge in registrations, Vote.org tracked at the time.
By the time this story was published, however, about 1.5 million of Swift’s 283 million followers had liked her endorsement post, and as of Wednesday morning, Swift-inspired Harris-Walz friendship bracelets were sold out on KamalaHarris.com. One purchase goes toward a donation to the Harris Victory Fund.
While it appears on Fox and friends On Wednesday morning, Trump spoke of Swift’s potentially powerful endorsement.
“I was not a Taylor Swift fan,” Trump told the hosts. “It was just a matter of time. She couldn’t possibly support Biden… But she’s a very liberal person. She always seems to support a Democrat, and she’s probably going to pay the price in the marketplace.”
Trump then praised football player Brittany Mahomes, wife of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, for liking one of his posts on X (formerly Twitter). Swift's boyfriend, Travis Kelce, is a tight end for the Chiefs.
