Hollywood big names, get ready: Armando Iaunucci is coming.
THE Vice President AND Avenue 5 creator/writer collaborated with Succession AND Vice President writer Jon Brown, and he's crashed from the world of politics and space onto a superhero movie set for his upcoming satirical series, The franchisewhich has now released a teaser trailer.
by Sam Mendes (Falling Sky, American Beauty) is director and executive producer together with Iaunucci (Good and bad weather, The Death of Stalin) and Brown, with Brown as showrunner.
“Everything is blowing up at a million miles an hour and the film is a scrotum on a razor’s edge,” Himesh Patel says to set the tone for the film. Patel plays the director of a little-loved franchise film “struggling for his place in a wild and unruly cinematic universe.”
According to the synopsis, “The comedy series sheds light on the secret chaos within the world of superhero movies, to ask the question: How exactly is cinematic sausage made? Because every mistake has an origin story.”
Rounding out the cast are Aya Cash, Jessica Hynes, Billy Magnussen, Lolly Adefope, Darren Goldstein and Isaac Powell, with Richard E. Grant and Daniel Brühl as recurring guest stars.
“I ate a lot of shit for this money: a thirty-centimeter long piece of shit,” Brühl says at one point.
The franchise will debut Sunday, October 6 at 10:00 p.m. on HBO, streaming on Max, with episodes released weekly.
Mendes, Pippa Harris, Nicolas Brown and Julie Pastor serve as executive producers for Neal Street Productions; with Iannucci for Dundee Productions, along with Brown and Jim Kleverweis. The pilot was directed by Mendes and written by Brown.
