Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 is officially in production. Netflix announced the news with a teaser video and revealed the cast of the actress who will play the highly anticipated role of Earthbender Toph.
Originally released in February, Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the beloved Nickelodeon animated series was renewed for two more seasons in March.
The story, like its animated original, follows Aang (Gordon Cormier), the young Avatar, as he learns to master the four elements (Water, Earth, Fire, Air) to restore balance to a world threatened by the Fire Nation. Kiawentiio plays his friend Katara and Ian Ousley his brother Sokka.
For season two, Netflix announced that Miya Cech will play Toph, an earthbender who joins the team. The video released Thursday doesn’t reveal her face, but it does hint at her earthbending powers.
Cech's previous credits include an episode of the Emmy-winning series Beef and Adam Sandler You are not invited to my Bat Mitzvah at all..
The Last Airbender The cast also includes Daniel Dae Kim as Fire Lord Ozai, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as General Iroh, Ken Leung as Commander Zhao, Elizabeth Yu as Princess Azula, and Dallas Liu as Prince Zuko.
Ahead of the show's premiere, Cormier, Kiawentiio, Ousley and Liu spoke about The Hollywood Reporter They were eager to find their Toph.
“With the animated series, it gets better every season,” Kiawentiio said. “I think adding a new addition to our group, seeing Toph, is super exciting.”
