The cast of Malcolm WashingtonThe Netflix movie of The piano lesson — John David Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, Fisherman Ray, Danielle Deewyler, Michael Potts, My Friend Corey Hawkins AND Erykah Badu — will receive an Ensemble Tribute at the 2024 Gotham Awards ceremony, the Gotham Film & Media Institute announced Wednesday.
This honor, along with many others yet to be announced, will be presented at a gala dinner celebrating the 34th annual Gotham Awards at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City on Monday, December 2.
Recipients of the Ensemble Tribute, first introduced in 2005 “to recognize talented casts whose artistry and chemistry captivate audiences on the big screen,” have included The wounded cabinet, Babel, Winter Bone, Moonlight, The Favorite AND The Trial of the Chicago 7.
“The piano lesson It's a surprising adaptation, which brings August Wilsonthe game comes to life with captivating cinematic art”, Jeffrey Sharpexecutive director of the Gotham Film & Media Institute, said in a statement. “The remarkable talent, commitment and chemistry of this brilliant ensemble cast is at the heart of the film, elevating its touching story of family legacy. It is exactly this kind of collaborative excellence that our Ensemble Tribute seeks to recognize.”
The piano lessonworld premiered at the recent Telluride Film Festival, will screen in select theaters beginning November 8 and will then be available for streaming on Netflix on November 22.
