Get ready for dad jokes. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz set his debut for late at night. The Democratic vice presidential candidate will appear Jimmy Kimmel live this coming Monday, October 7th.
Despite a flurry of campaign appearances since Kamala Harris was inaugurated as Vice President on Aug. 6, she hasn't done many televised meetings. Monday's debate with Donald Trump's vice president, J.D. Vance, was the most screen time he's gotten in quite a while. Now he'll meet with Kimmel in Hollywood for an appearance that's sure to rely heavily on the candidate's Midwestern affability.
That night will be appearance No. 2 for Walz. It was announced on Tuesday that Harris would have a meeting during a special outing on October 7 60 minutes – during a segment that will also feature his running partner. (Trump was also supposed to appear in the episode but dropped out.)
The booking is particularly interesting given the fact that neither the presidential candidate nor his running mates have attended any of this campaign's late-night shows. Of course, Trump has not visited any of the stages from which he is so often derided. As for Harris, she has been remarkably discerning about her engagement with the media since replacing President Joe Biden on the Democratic ticket. Walz's appearance in Kimmel is truly a success.
Another place you won't see any of the presidential candidates is Saturday night live. Executive producer Lorne Michaels revealed this The Hollywood journalist during a recent interview. “You can't bring in real people to run because of election laws and equal time provisions,” he said, and then clarified: “You can't have major candidates without having all candidates, and there are there are so many minor candidates who are on the ballot in only three states and this becomes really complicated.
As for Walz, he found himself SNL in other ways. Jim Gaffigan debuted his impersonation of the Minnesota governor during the sketch show's 50th season premiere last week.
Jimmy Kimmel live airs weekdays at 11:35pm ET on ABC and streams the next day on Hulu.
