Abbott Elementary School Fans won't have to wait long to find out the whereabouts of Janine (Quinta Brunson) and Gregory (Tyler James Williams) following the cliffhanger that marked the season three finale.
The final moments of the series' previous episode saw Gregory and Janine finally take their undecided relationship to the next level with a passionate kiss.
Williams stopped The Hollywood Reporter and SAG-AFTRA’s annual Emmy Nominees Night event on Friday. When asked what he could tease about their season four romance, the Emmy nominee for the hit ABC comedy remained mostly mum on specifics, but did share an interesting tidbit.
“You're definitely going to get an answer about what's going on with them. What happens now? That's one thing I can promise. You'll find out in the first episode,” he said. DAY of the premiere, which airs on ABC on Oct. 9. “That's for sure. We decided to give him a real, not necessarily a punctuation mark because it never is, but at least a concert response. You'll get that for sure.”
Like most fans of the series, Williams found himself thinking, “Finally!” after first reading the kiss between Gregory and Janine in the script for Abbott Elementary School season 3 finale.
“At a certain point, when you’re in the character’s shoes, you start to feel the anxiety building as well. So, it was really cool to be able to say, ‘OK, we can just pop this and see what happens,’” he said, adding that the immediate next step was figuring out how their moment would be different from every other will-they-won’t-they moment in pop culture.
The actor Emmy nomination This year marks his third consecutive recognition for his portrayal of Gregory in Brunson's award-winning sitcom, and he admitted that the accolade never gets old.
“There’s a lot of really good TV out there, so for us to be nominated and considered and celebrated, it’s always super special,” she said. “And I think everyone works so hard every year that we never see each other, so it’s a really cool time to see your friends and people you’ve worked with before.”
Abbott Elementary School received eight additional Emmy nominations. In addition to Williams' nod for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy, the show also received nods for Outstanding Comedy Series, Actress in a Comedy Series, Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, Directing for a Comedy, and Writing for a Comedy, among others.
The 2024 Emmys, hosted by Eugene and Dan Levy, will air Sunday, September 15 on ABC from 5:00-8:00 p.m. PT/8:00-11:00 p.m. ET.
