Wallace and Gromit teased their return to the big screen on Wednesday with the trailer and release date Revenge plus Fowlthe latest film from the Claymation duo.
Directors Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham helm the project, which sees the return of evil chicken mastermind Feathers McGraw, back seeking revenge following his role in the 1993 Oscar-winning short film, The wrong pants.
Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowlannounced by the BBC this summer, will celebrate its world premiere at AFI Fest on October 27, with a limited theatrical release in December. The film will then arrive on Netflix worldwide on January 3.
In the new film, Gromit's concern that Wallace is becoming too dependent on his inventions proves justified when Wallace invents an “intelligent” gnome that appears to develop a mind of its own, according to the release. When it emerges that Feathers McGraw may be the mastermind, it's up to Gromit to fight the sinister forces and save his master… or Wallace may never be able to invent again!
New and returning cast members include Ben Whitehead, British comedian Peter Kay, Lauren Patel, Reece Shearsmith, with cameos from Diane Morgan, Adjoa Andoh and Sir Lenny Henry.
Park, the Oscar-winning creator of Wallace & Gromit, previously said he had had the idea for a film about garden gnomes turning evil for more than a decade. “It occurred to me that the most common question I get when meeting fans is: Will Feathers McGraw be the penguin, the original antagonist of Wallace and Gromit's The wrong pants 30 years ago, never come back? We had fun bringing it back as a cameo but now, three decades later, it seemed like the right time. Then it occurred to me: what if Feathers was involved with these gnomes?”
