Beetlejuice was officially resurrected on the big screen as Tim Burton gave the world premiere of his highly anticipated sequel, Beetle Juice Beetle Juiceat the Venice Film Festival on Wednesday evening.
While the bizarre antics of the macabre title character rightfully stole the show at the Lido, fashion wasn’t far behind.
The sequel’s stars went method, showcasing looks on opening night that wouldn’t be out of place on their characters on the big screen. Here’s a closer look.
Jenna Ortega in Dior
With her stylist Enrique Melendez, the Dior ambassador recreated the looks of the original Beetle Juice film on her promotional tour, and continued the trend with this red tulle Dior Haute Couture gown. The look was inspired by the wedding scene from the 1988 original in which Winona Ryder’s Lydia Deetz marries Michael Keaton’s title character. Ortega, who plays Lydia’s daughter Astrid Deetz, paired the gown with Dior Joaillerie accessories including a Bois de Rose necklace, bracelet, and rings in white gold, rose gold, and diamonds. Yes, it’s a scorching look, and it was also very hot in Venice on Wednesday, making the ensemble a wise choice for a muggy summer night.
Winona Ryder in Chanel
Styled by Erica Cloud, the veteran actress hit the red carpet in a Chanel Haute Couture ensemble that would look great on screen if worn by her character, Lydia Deetz. She paired the black silk tulle skirt with a fitted tuxedo jacket and gold buttoned vest. Ryder's red carpet attire also paid homage to days gone by, as the look was inspired by a look she showed at the house's haute couture presentation in 2007.
Catherine O'Hara in Oscar de la Renta
“Did you see Catherine O'Hara's dress? Wow!” That was the reaction of someone standing nearby. The Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet last night when O'Hara arrived on the scene outside the Great Hall. The veteran comedy star stepped out in a woven leather column gown by Oscar de la Renta, decorated with floral designs and avant-garde pieces jutting out from the top. O'Hara, reprising her role as Delia Deetz, completed the look with jewelry from festival partner Cartier.
Monica Bellucci in Vivienne Westwood
The Italian film icon chose a custom Vivienne Westwood look for the festival's opening ceremony. Bellucci, who plays Beetlejuice's one-time love interest Dolores, arrived arm-in-arm with her director boyfriend Burton, seen above in a black Dior tuxedo.
