Zayn Malik revealed his new US tour dates on Wednesday. The singer previously announced he would postpone performances following the death of his former One Direction bandmate Liam Payne.
Zayn will resume his Stairway to the Sky tour on January 21 in Washington, DC, before continuing on to New York, Los Angeles and Las Vegas. It will conclude in San Francisco on February 3.
Previously, shows in the cities were scheduled for October and November this year; was going to play in San Francisco on Wednesday night.
Zayn announced his decision to postpone the tour on Saturday, citing “the heartbreaking loss” of Payne, who died on Wednesday last week.
Payne died in Buenos Aires, Argentina, after jumping from the balcony of the Hotel Casa Sur. Authorities later said the English singer-songwriter died of trauma and internal and external bleeding. The preliminary toxicology report suggested evidence of cocaine exposure.
Zayn paid tribute to his late friend in the days that followed, writing on social media that “I never got to thank you for supporting me through some of the most difficult times in my life. When I missed home as a 17-year-old boy, you were always there with a positive look and a reassuring smile and let me know that you were my friend and that I was loved. Even though you were younger than me, you were always more sensible than me, you were stubborn, opinionated and didn't give a shit about telling people when they were wrong. Even though we clashed a few times over this, I have always secretly respected you for it.
The tribute came after former band members also released a group statement, which read: “We are completely devastated by the news of Liam's death. In time, and when everyone is capable of it, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly. The memories we shared with him will be cherished forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, friends and fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam.
